Description

Louisiana Shrimp and Crab Casserole brings together ocean-fresh seafood and creamy comfort in one delightful Southern dish. Rich coastal flavors shine through with each comforting, cheesy forkful of pure Gulf Coast goodness.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Seafood Ingredients:

  • 1 lb shrimp, peeled and deveined
  • 1 cup imitation crab meat or real lump crab, chopped

Cheese and Creamy Ingredients:

  • 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
  • ½ cup mozzarella or Monterey Jack cheese
  • 1 cup sour cream
  • ½ cup mayonnaise

Seasoning and Topping Ingredients:

  • 1 teaspoon garlic powder
  • 1 teaspoon onion powder
  • ½ teaspoon paprika
  • ½ teaspoon black pepper
  • ¼ teaspoon salt
  • ½ teaspoon soy sauce
  • 2 green onions, chopped
  • 1 tablespoon fresh parsley
  • ½ cup breadcrumbs
  • 1 tablespoon melted butter

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F and grease a 9×13 inch casserole dish with 1 tablespoon melted butter.
  2. Pat 1 lb shrimp dry and sauté in 1 tablespoon olive oil for 2-3 minutes until they turn light pink.
  3. Chop 1 cup crab meat into small, bite-sized pieces and set aside in a separate bowl.
  4. Whisk 1 cup sour cream, ½ cup mayonnaise, 1 teaspoon garlic powder, 1 teaspoon onion powder, ½ teaspoon paprika, ½ teaspoon black pepper, and ¼ teaspoon salt in a large mixing bowl.
  5. Fold 1 ½ cups cheddar cheese and ½ cup mozzarella into the creamy mixture until well combined.
  6. Gently incorporate sautéed shrimp and chopped crab into the cheese sauce, stirring carefully to coat evenly.
  7. Mix in 2 chopped green onions and 1 tablespoon fresh parsley for added flavor.
  8. Transfer the seafood mixture into the prepared casserole dish, spreading it out smoothly.
  9. If desired, sprinkle ½ cup breadcrumbs mixed with 1 tablespoon melted butter over the top.
  10. Bake uncovered at 350°F for 25-30 minutes until the casserole is bubbly and golden brown.
  11. Remove from the oven and let it rest for 10 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set.

Notes

  • Fresh seafood makes all the difference, so select high-quality shrimp and crab meat for the best flavor.
  • Drain thawed seafood thoroughly to prevent excess liquid from making the casserole watery.
  • Sauté shrimp quickly to keep them tender and prevent rubberiness – just until they turn pink.
  • Add gluten-free breadcrumbs or crushed nuts for a low-carb topping that still provides delicious crunch.
