Description

Sausage and rice casserole delivers pure comfort straight from grandma’s kitchen to your dinner table. Hearty sausage, fluffy rice, and a creamy blend of herbs create a satisfying meal your family will devour in minutes.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Protein:

  • 1 pound sausage

Grains and Liquid:

  • 2 cups uncooked rice
  • 4 cups chicken broth

Vegetables and Seasonings:

  • 1 onion, chopped
  • 1 bell pepper, chopped
  • 2 cloves garlic, minced
  • 1 can diced tomatoes
  • 1 teaspoon paprika
  • Salt and pepper to taste

Instructions

  1. Heat your oven to precisely 350F (175C) and grab a 9×13 inch baking dish for easy preparation.
  2. Crumble the entire 1 pound sausage into a large skillet and cook over medium heat until it’s completely browned and no pink remains.
  3. Toss the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic into the skillet with the sausage and sauté for 4-5 minutes until vegetables turn soft and fragrant.
  4. Pour 2 cups uncooked rice into the skillet and stir to combine with the sausage and vegetable mixture.
  5. Add 4 cups chicken broth, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 teaspoon paprika, and sprinkle salt and pepper to coat everything evenly.
  6. Transfer the entire skillet mixture into your prepared baking dish and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
  7. Slide the covered dish into the preheated oven and bake for exactly 30 minutes.
  8. Remove the foil and return the casserole to the oven for an additional 10 minutes to develop a slightly crispy top.
  9. Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before gently fluffing with a fork and serving hot.

Notes

  • Choose a high-quality smoked sausage for deeper flavor and better overall taste.
  • Brown the sausage thoroughly to develop rich caramelized notes before adding vegetables.
  • For a gluten-free version, swap regular rice with cauliflower rice or use brown rice instead.
  • Let the casserole rest 5-10 minutes after baking to help the rice absorb remaining moisture and become perfectly tender.
