- 2 cups uncooked rice
- 4 cups chicken broth
Vegetables and Seasonings:
- 1 onion, chopped
- 1 bell pepper, chopped
- 2 cloves garlic, minced
- 1 can diced tomatoes
- 1 teaspoon paprika
- Salt and pepper to taste
Instructions
- Heat your oven to precisely 350F (175C) and grab a 9×13 inch baking dish for easy preparation.
- Crumble the entire 1 pound sausage into a large skillet and cook over medium heat until it’s completely browned and no pink remains.
- Toss the chopped onion, bell pepper, and minced garlic into the skillet with the sausage and sauté for 4-5 minutes until vegetables turn soft and fragrant.
- Pour 2 cups uncooked rice into the skillet and stir to combine with the sausage and vegetable mixture.
- Add 4 cups chicken broth, 1 can diced tomatoes, 1 teaspoon paprika, and sprinkle salt and pepper to coat everything evenly.
- Transfer the entire skillet mixture into your prepared baking dish and cover tightly with aluminum foil.
- Slide the covered dish into the preheated oven and bake for exactly 30 minutes.
- Remove the foil and return the casserole to the oven for an additional 10 minutes to develop a slightly crispy top.
- Remove from oven and let rest for 5 minutes before gently fluffing with a fork and serving hot.
Notes
- Choose a high-quality smoked sausage for deeper flavor and better overall taste.
- Brown the sausage thoroughly to develop rich caramelized notes before adding vegetables.
- For a gluten-free version, swap regular rice with cauliflower rice or use brown rice instead.
- Let the casserole rest 5-10 minutes after baking to help the rice absorb remaining moisture and become perfectly tender.
