Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 12 fresh figs

Flavor Enhancers:

  • 2 tablespoons honey
  • 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar
  • 1 tablespoon olive oil
  • 1 pinch sea salt

Optional Toppings:

  • 1 sprig fresh thyme
  • 1 sprig fresh rosemary
  • ¼ cup walnuts
  • ¼ cup pistachios
  • 1 teaspoon cinnamon
  • ½ teaspoon cardamom
  • 2 tablespoons brown sugar
  • ¼ cup crumbled feta cheese
  • ¼ cup crumbled goat cheese
  • ¼ cup fresh mint leaves
  • ½ cup greek yogurt

Instructions

  1. Preheat the oven to 400°F and prepare a baking sheet with a light coating of olive oil.
  2. Gently rinse your 12 fresh figs under cool water and carefully pat them completely dry with a paper towel.
  3. Using a sharp knife, create a small cross-shaped cut on the top of each fig, stopping about halfway down.
  4. Whisk together 2 tablespoons honey, 1 tablespoon balsamic vinegar, 1 tablespoon olive oil, and a pinch of sea salt in a small mixing bowl.
  5. Arrange the figs cut-side up in a single layer on the prepared baking sheet.
  6. Drizzle the entire honey-balsamic mixture evenly over each fig, ensuring each piece gets coated.
  7. Slide the baking sheet into the 400°F oven and roast for exactly 15-20 minutes until the figs turn golden and become tender.
  8. Remove the baking sheet from the oven and allow the figs to rest for 3-4 minutes.
  9. Transfer the roasted figs to a serving plate and sprinkle with your favorite optional toppings like chopped walnuts or crumbled feta cheese.
  10. Serve the figs warm, drizzling any remaining glaze from the baking sheet over the top.

Notes

  • Choose ripe, soft figs that give slightly when gently pressed for the best roasted texture.
  • Drizzle the glaze generously to help the figs caramelize and develop deep, rich flavor.
  • For a vegan version, replace honey with maple syrup or agave nectar.
  • Fresh goat cheese or mascarpone makes an excellent creamy accompaniment when served alongside the roasted figs.
