Ingredients
Scale
Protein and Dairy:
- 1 lb breakfast sausage, cooked and crumbled
- 6 large eggs
- 1 ½ cups shredded cheddar cheese
- ½ cup milk
Base and Binding:
- 1 tube (8 oz) crescent roll dough
Seasonings and Garnish:
- ½ teaspoon salt
- ½ teaspoon black pepper
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 1 tablespoon maple syrup
- 2 tablespoons fresh parsley, chopped
Instructions
- Fire up your oven to 375°F and coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray so nothing sticks.
- Grab a skillet and cook 1 pound of breakfast sausage over medium heat until it’s nicely browned and crumbled. Drain away the extra grease.
- Unroll the 8-ounce crescent roll tube and press the dough evenly across the bottom of your greased dish, carefully sealing any open seams.
- Scatter the cooked sausage across the dough in an even layer, then sprinkle 1 ½ cups of shredded cheddar cheese on top.
- In a bowl, crack 6 large eggs and whisk them with ½ cup milk, ½ teaspoon each of salt, black pepper, garlic powder, and onion powder. Add 1 tablespoon maple syrup for a hint of sweetness.
- Pour the egg mixture slowly and gently over the sausage and cheese, making sure it covers everything evenly.
- Slide the dish into the preheated 375°F oven and bake for 25-30 minutes until the eggs set and the top turns a beautiful golden brown.
- Pull the casserole out, garnish with 2 tablespoons of freshly chopped parsley, and serve while it’s warm and inviting.
Notes
- Always drain sausage thoroughly to prevent a soggy casserole bottom.
- Use room temperature eggs for smoother, more even mixing when creating the egg custard.
- Cut cold butter into small cubes to distribute evenly throughout the crescent roll base for better texture.
- Swap pork sausage with turkey sausage or vegetarian crumbles to create a lighter, healthier version of the dish.
