Description
Ham and Cheese Croissants are my weekend breakfast go-to when friends crash at my place. These flaky pastries stuffed with melty cheese and savory ham come together faster than brewing coffee, making them perfect for lazy mornings.
Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 6 croissants
- 12 slices ham
- 12 slices cheese
Supporting Ingredients:
- 4 tablespoons (¼ cup / 60 milliliters) unsalted butter
- 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) Dijon mustard
- 1 tablespoon (15 milliliters) honey
Seasonings:
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- Salt
- Black pepper
Optional Garnish:
- Fresh parsley (chopped)
Instructions
- Warm your oven to precisely 350°F (175°C) and prepare a baking sheet with parchment paper or a light butter coating to prevent sticking.
- Carefully slice 6 large buttery croissants horizontally, keeping them connected at one edge like a book.
- Layer 2 thin slices of ham (approximately 28 grams) and 2 slices of cheese (about 28 grams) inside each croissant, ensuring even distribution.
- Create a flavorful glaze by combining 4 tablespoons (60 ml) melted unsalted butter, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) Dijon mustard, 1 tablespoon (15 ml) honey, ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, and a pinch of salt and black pepper in a small mixing bowl.
- Generously brush the entire surface of each croissant with the prepared glaze, ensuring complete and even coverage.
- Position the glazed croissants on the baking sheet, allowing them to touch slightly for stability.
- Cover the baking sheet loosely with aluminum foil and bake for 10-12 minutes, allowing the cheese to melt completely.
- Remove the foil and continue baking for an additional 5-7 minutes until the tops achieve a golden, crispy appearance.
- Optional: Sprinkle chopped fresh parsley over the croissants for added color and fresh flavor before serving.
Notes
- Let the croissants rest for a few minutes after baking to help the cheese set and prevent burning your mouth.
- Use high-quality ham and cheese for the best flavor, like Black Forest ham and sharp cheddar or Swiss.
- If the croissants seem dry, brush a bit more glaze on them just before serving to add moisture and shine.
- For a lighter version, swap regular ham for turkey and use reduced-fat cheese to cut down on calories.
