Ingredients
Scale
Main Ingredients:
- 4 cups chicken
- 1 box (6 oz) stuffing mix
Liquid Ingredients:
- 1 can (10.5 oz) cream of chicken soup
- 1 cup chicken broth
- ½ cup sour cream
Seasonings and Extras:
- ½ teaspoon garlic powder
- ½ teaspoon onion powder
- 2 tablespoons butter
- Salt
- Black pepper
- Chopped parsley
Instructions
- Preheat your oven to 350°F and generously coat a 9×13-inch baking dish with cooking spray.
- Combine 4 cups of shredded chicken, 1 can of cream of chicken soup, and ½ cup sour cream in a large mixing bowl. Blend thoroughly until the mixture looks smooth and consistent.
- Add ½ teaspoon garlic powder, ½ teaspoon onion powder, salt, and pepper to the chicken mixture. Stir until seasonings are evenly distributed.
- Pour the seasoned chicken mixture into the prepared baking dish. Spread it evenly across the surface using a spatula.
- In a separate bowl, mix 1 box of stuffing mix with 2 tablespoons of melted butter. Toss until the stuffing is lightly coated.
- Gradually pour 1 cup of chicken broth over the stuffing mixture. Gently stir until the bread cubes are moistened but not soggy.
- Spread the prepared stuffing mixture evenly on top of the chicken layer in the baking dish.
- Slide the casserole into the preheated oven and bake for 35-40 minutes. Look for a golden-brown stuffing top and bubbling edges.
- Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5-10 minutes. This helps the layers settle and makes serving easier.
- Sprinkle chopped parsley on top for a fresh garnish before serving.
Notes
- Use fresh, high-quality chicken for the best flavor and texture in the casserole.
- Swap out cream of chicken soup for a homemade version or a dairy-free alternative if you’re avoiding processed ingredients.
- For a gluten-free version, replace the traditional stuffing mix with gluten-free breadcrumbs or a cornbread-based stuffing.
- Let the casserole rest after baking to help it set and make cutting and serving much easier, which prevents a messy presentation.
