Description

Hamburger potato casserole brings comfort straight to your dinner table with hearty layers of ground beef, potatoes, and melted cheese that make family mealtime a delicious breeze. Packed with simple ingredients and baked until golden, this one-dish wonder delivers pure satisfaction without any fuss.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Protein:

  • 2 lb Ground Beef

Starch Base:

  • 6 small Potatoes
  • 1 cup Shredded Cheddar Cheese

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 21 oz Cream of Mushroom Condensed Soup
  • 1 ½ cup Milk
  • ¼ teaspoon Onion Powder
  • ¼ teaspoon Garlic Powder

Instructions

  1. Crank your oven to 350°F and coat a 9×13 inch baking dish with cooking spray.
  2. Brown 2 lbs of ground beef in a large skillet, then drain excess fat completely.
  3. Mix the browned beef with 21 oz cream of mushroom soup, 1 ½ cups milk, ¼ tsp onion powder, and ¼ tsp garlic powder in a large mixing bowl.
  4. Slice 6 small potatoes into thin, uniform rounds. Spread half the potato slices across the bottom of your prepared baking dish.
  5. Pour half of your beef and soup mixture over the potato layer, ensuring even coverage.
  6. Create a second layer with remaining potato slices, then top with remaining beef mixture.
  7. Cover the entire dish tightly with aluminum foil and bake at 350°F for 1 hour.
  8. Remove foil and sprinkle 1 cup of shredded cheddar cheese across the top of the casserole.
  9. Return uncovered dish to the oven and bake for an additional 15 minutes until cheese melts completely.
  10. Allow casserole to rest for 10 minutes before serving to help it set and cool slightly.

Notes

  • Always choose russet potatoes for the best texture and even cooking in this hearty casserole.
  • Brown the ground beef thoroughly to develop deep, rich flavor and prevent excess moisture in the dish.
  • For a lighter version, swap regular milk with skim milk and use low-fat cream of mushroom soup.
  • Sprinkle some fresh chopped parsley on top before serving to add a bright, fresh note to the casserole.
