Description

Green Bean Casserole brings holiday memories flooding back to my family table, with crispy onions and creamy sauce making this classic side dish something everyone craves during festive gatherings.

Ingredients

Scale

Main Ingredients:

  • 2 14.5 oz cans green beans
  • 1.5 cups French’s crispy fried onions

Supporting Ingredients:

  • 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup
  • 0.75 cup whole milk

Seasoning:

  • 0.5 teaspoon soy sauce
  • 0.25 teaspoon black pepper

Instructions

  1. Preheat your oven to 350°F, ensuring the rack is positioned in the center for even cooking.
  2. In a large mixing bowl, whisk together the 10.5 oz cream of mushroom soup and ¾ cup whole milk until the mixture becomes smooth and creamy.
  3. Add ½ teaspoon soy sauce and ¼ teaspoon black pepper to the soup mixture, stirring thoroughly to distribute the seasonings evenly.
  4. Drain two 14.5 oz cans of green beans completely and fold them into the creamy soup base, making sure each bean is well coated.
  5. Sprinkle ½ cup of French’s crispy fried onions into the green bean mixture, gently stirring to incorporate them throughout the casserole.
  6. Transfer the green bean mixture to a 9×13 inch baking dish, spreading it out in an even layer.
  7. Place the casserole in the preheated oven and bake for 30 minutes, allowing the flavors to meld and the edges to become slightly bubbly.
  8. Remove the casserole from the oven and give it a gentle stir to redistribute the ingredients.
  9. Scatter the remaining 1 cup of French’s crispy fried onions across the top of the casserole.
  10. Return the dish to the oven and bake for an additional 5-10 minutes, watching carefully until the onion topping turns a golden brown color.
  11. Remove from the oven and let the casserole rest for 5 minutes before serving to allow the sauce to set slightly.

Notes

  • Freshly chopped mushrooms can replace cream of mushroom soup for a more homemade taste and lower sodium option.
  • Swap dairy milk with unsweetened almond or oat milk to make the casserole dairy-free and lighter.
  • For extra crunch, mix some sliced almonds with the French’s fried onions before topping the casserole.
  • To prevent soggy beans, blanch fresh green beans briefly in boiling water before adding to the casserole, ensuring a crisp texture.
